The Real Work of Self-Love
Ah, self-love. The phrase gets tossed around like confetti these days, often alongside a photo of a matcha latte, a bubble bath, or someone wearing a clay mask and a serene smile. And while I love a good soak as much as the next wellness warrior, let’s be real: true self-love isn’t always that glamorous.
At its core, self-love is radical, gritty, and sometimes a little uncomfortable. It means looking at yourself fully, not just the Instagram-worthy angles, but the shadows too. The parts you’d rather crop out. The pieces of you that still carry old pain, outdated beliefs, or behaviors that keep sabotaging your glow-up.
And here's the truth bomb I keep circling back to, year after year:
“Self-love is the cornerstone of well-being. It involves self-acceptance, embracing our imperfections, and recognizing our inherent worth.”
Sounds lovely, right? And it is. But getting there? That’s where the shadow work comes in.
See, we all have parts of ourselves we quietly judge, reject, or ignore, the parts that feel “too much,” “not enough,” or just a little too messy. Ironically, those are often the parts running the show, attracting people, situations, and patterns that reinforce the idea that we’re unworthy of love.
Ever wonder why you keep attracting emotionally unavailable partners? Or why you can't seem to stop people-pleasing, even when it drains you? Or why your inner critic has a louder mic than your inner cheerleader?
Yeah. That’s the unhealed stuff whispering (or yelling) through your choices.
But here’s where it gets good.
When we have the courage to look at those parts rather than stuff them, we begin to unravel the tangled beliefs that have us settling for crumbs. We stop outsourcing our worth to people who can’t see our value. We start showing up differently, for ourselves first, and then in every space we walk into.

That’s real self-care.
Not just soothing the symptoms, but healing the source.
Now, I’m not suggesting you cancel your next spa day (please don’t, your nervous system needs that too). But I am inviting you to ask:
What parts of me have I been avoiding?
Where am I still operating from an old wound?
What stories am I ready to release, so I can love myself more fully?
Self-love isn’t a final destination. It’s a daily practice of coming home to yourself: scars, sparkle, and all. It’s both sacred and silly, deep
and playful. And yes, sometimes it looks like crying on the floor at 2 am... and sometimes it looks like dancing in the kitchen with no pants on.
Just remember: the more you love the parts of you that feel hardest to love, the less you’ll tolerate anything that makes you forget your worth.
And that, my friend, is the most powerful kind of love there is.
If you’re ready to meet the hidden parts of yourself with compassion… to untangle the old stories and finally fall in love with the person you’re becoming… I’d be honored to walk with you.
Together, we’ll explore the shadows, not to fix you, but to free you. Because you’ve always been worthy of your own love.
Let’s begin the journey back to you.
